Italian National Institute of Metrological Research
The Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica (INRiM) is a public body under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of University and Research. INRiM is devoted to the study of the science of measurements and to research into materials; furthermore, it works on developing innovative technologies and devices. On 1st January 2006, the Istituto Elettrotecnico Nazionale “Galileo Ferraris” (IEN) founded in 1935 and the Istituto di Metrologia “Gustavo Colonnetti” (IMGC) founded in 1968 merged to establish this Institute. INRiM deals with new measurement technologies and devices, materials science, nanoscience, quantum optics, environment, energy, health, food certification. INRiM realizes, maintains, and develops the national reference standards of the International System of Units (SI).
Role within EMPHASIS
In EMPHASIS, INRiM will provide metrology for the characterization of graphene for novel supercapacitor electrode materials. Tasks involve electrical conductivity measurements, tomographic mapping of conductive graphene compact sheets, with traceability to the SI ohm , and in agreement with the forthcoming publication of some IEC TC/113 technical standards. Moreover, INRiM will develop a metrological infrastructure for the traceable characterization of the new SCs including the development of a quick method for the definition of SoH of the device.
