EMPHASIS 4th Progress Meeting and Cluster Event: Advancing Supercapacitor Innovation in Athens

The EMPHASIS project consortium gathered from 3 to 4 June in Athens for its 4th Progress Meeting, followed by a joint Cluster Event with the INERRANT project. The two-day meeting provided an important opportunity for partners to assess the project’s progress, align on final activities, and foster collaboration across related EU-funded initiatives.

Hosted by Pleione Energy, the Progress Meeting opened with welcome remarks from Nassos Masouras (Pleione Energy), followed by a comprehensive project update and management session. Work Package leaders presented the latest developments across all areas of the project — from laser-assisted graphene production, novel carbon materials, and eco-friendly electrolytes, to smart textile demonstrators, innovative management systems, and sustainability assessments. Each session included interactive discussions, allowing partners to review achievements, address open challenges, and plan next steps as EMPHASIS enters its final phase.

The second day featured a dedicated hybrid Cluster Event, bringing together EMPHASIS and the INERRANT project, which focuses on battery technologies. Opened by Nassos Masouras (EMPHASIS, Pleione Energy) and Spyros Yannopoulos (INERRANT, FORTH), the workshop provided a platform for both consortia to exchange knowledge, explore synergies, and discuss future collaboration opportunities. Topics covered included materials processing and integration, testing and validation methods, policy frameworks, and sustainability aspects of energy storage technologies.

The event concluded with a roundtable discussion, where participants identified potential joint activities, including joint publications and further cooperation, highlighting the strong collaborative spirit of both projects.

We thank all partners and contributors for their active participation and valuable input. As EMPHASIS moves into its final stages, the insights and discussions from Athens will play a crucial role in delivering the project’s objectives and advancing supercapacitor innovation for smart textiles and electromobility.

Stay tuned for further updates from EMPHASIS!
